Original Game: Klonoa 2; Lunatea's Veil

Mobius history and legend tells of the King of Sorrow, an unfortunate young ruler during the first contact of mankind and mobians. His name is sadly lost, but what is known is that he was the youngest son of the King and Queen, never meant to take the throne. When the humans, led by captain Benjamin Briggs, first arrived at the kingdom of Mobius, the city initially welcomed them. Briggs, a selfish and thoughtless man, repaid this kindness by kidnapping the ruler's children and spreading a deadly plague through the population. So many died, including the King and Queen, leaving the innocent young prince to become a reluctant king over all that had been destroyed.

With the cruel death of his family and the pointless destruction of his home, the King began to weep so much that his black fur turned blue. The skies over Mobius wept with him, his sorrow somehow connecting to a deeper power in the universe. When the humans returned to Mobius, intent on conquest, the torrential rains drove them back...not only because of the adverse weather, but that the rain drove them to guilt and despair, for their own sins and the sins of their fellows. Soldiers dived off their ships to escape the phantoms only they could see, while others stood still and wept for hours on end. None could withstand the rain, and any plans to conquer Mobius were thrown to the wayside as the remaining soldiers fled home.

But even after the ships fled from the kingdom, the king could not stop weeping, and his tears threatened to consume what was left of Mobius. His council was forced to poison him to stop the rains, praying that he would forgive them in time. The Kingdom gradually rebuilt itself as the storms of sadness ceased, securing itself from further attacks from humanity. And thus, the king was put to rest.

At least, that is how the story goes. But the restless spirit of the young king lingered on in the rain and fog. And while his maintains the form of the tragic Mobian king, it appears that he has merged with some other entity, perhaps merging with other lost souls somehow. The rain he brings with his appearance brings a man's guilt and shame to the forefront of his mind, the phantoms of those he has killed coming to life before his eyes. None can fight the King even if they wished...the only way to be free of him is to accept responsibility for your guilt and accept your own sorrow.
